Help Find A Cure to COVID-19 with your computer!

In light of recent events, I thought I should share the amazing things that the Folding@Home team is doing to help fight against Corona Virus in the form of a podcast. Yes, self-quarantining and social distancing are really great tips for minimizing the spread of COVID-19, but what steps are being taken to actually fight back and find a direct cure to the virus? Well, Folding@Home is currently putting all their manpower and resources into running protein simulations on this virus to better understand it and be able to reverse engineer a possible cure for it. Folding@Home is not just a team, but it is also a downloadable software that anyone in the world can be a part of. Yes, you can also be a part of the Folding@Home team, just like I am! They need a lot of computational power to run the massive simulations that they need, so they have developed a client that allows users who download this software to volunteer their computer computational power, including the CPU and GPU processing power, for the researchers to run simulations with. Since having started in 2000, they are not just limited to focusing on COVID-19, however, given the urgency of the situation, they are using most of their resources towards this virus. They normally allow you to focus your computer resources on a specific disease research that you want to support, but like most people, if you are unsure of which specific disease you want to support studies for and pick any, your resources will be focus on COVID-19; “To focus on Covid19 research set your category to any.” (Folding@Home, 2020).
